In addition to residential solar, we can install a storage battery. Instead of feeding your excess power to the grid, your battery can be charged and electricity stored during off-peak which is then used at peak times when your grid electricity is more expensive. It can also provide power during power outages.
Whilst this may fit you budget right now, if you choose to wait, we can install a storage battery at a later time and hook it up to your system.
Solar storage batteries improve your energy costs in the long-term. Whilst there is initial outlay, by storing electricity from the solar panels when it is off peak and using it during peak times this saves money. That may be an effective strategy for Winter and shorter daylight hours.

Why would I get a storage battery rather than flow the excess electricity to the grid ?
Whilst there is an initial outlay, with a storage battery correctly set up and configured, you end up being closer to self-sufficient in your home.
Usually, the power generated is stored when it is 8c a kilowatt and discharged when the rate is 28c. As electricity can be an expensive utility and depending on your usage, this can be a significant option for some users.

After getting 3 quotes, I asked all 3 for their opinion re a battery. Jessie, from Smooth Current, was the only one who suggested extra panels to offset night time usage (which is what a battery is for) instead of a battery. So instead of a 5kw system, which everyone suggests, I have a 10kw system. I earn twice as much for exported electricity, and the extra panels are far cheaper than a $12,000 battery. The panels will last up to 25 years, the battery only 10 years. Jessie was very patient with my questions and seemed to understand that this is a steep learning curve for some of us. The instalment was quick and clean. I love the app that comes with it and I have not found a downside to my decision.
